1952- Triang clockwork 0-6-2T N2

This N2 locomotive was originally produced by "Pyramid Toys" for their TRACKMASTER range, however Trackmaster was bought out by Rovex (Triang) in late 1951 at a time when Triang was desperate for locomotives for the launch of their range in May 1952.

It was the only diecast locomotive produced by Triang and it was only ever made in clockwork. A motorized version was never developed because it was intended to drop the model from the range as soon as it could be replaced. Although it remained in the catalogue until 1956, production had stopped by the end of 1954.

This locomotive differed from the Hornby Dublo N2 in the fact that the Triang variant had a full load of coal and of course Hornby did not produce any clockwork models after 1940.

The Triang variant had different wheels and pony truck to the former Trackmaster locomotive which also had a more matt finish to the paintwork. The triang variant being more of a gloss finish. The "BRITISH RAILWAYS" decals were replaced by the BR lion logo from late 1953 onwards.

The side with the keyhole for the clockwork mechanism, perhaps the reason that the decal has been rubbed away on this side.

The coal load and also the two retaining screws can be seen

Showing the clockwork mechanism minus the spring which is sadly missing.

Front view, the coupling is missing. As the model is free wheeling due to the missing spring, the locomotive is sometimes coupled to an electric locomotive in the double headed role. Although most of the time it sits in a siding as decoration. Right: reaw view of the model showing the early 1952 Triang Mark 2a  coupling.

View of the rear wheels and the early Triang couplings. The carpet hairs are due to my wifes grandson playing with it on the floor in the past.
