This was the very first locomotive in the Transcontinental range and the only new locomotive release for 1954.

1956- Mk2 Coupling added to the front bogie.

1959- Mk3 couplings and light bulb added

1962- smoke unit added and name "HIAWATHA"

1964- Dropped from UK market, still sold abroad until 1972

On taking this picture I noticed it did not have a smoke unit.  Two locomotives, but only one is a runner, the second one in on display in a showcase and is robbed for spare parts. Now the Seuthe smoke unit sits happy in the runner. The non-runner on the right has no motor fitted.  The motor above has several burn marks on the coils, but does run very well. (By placing the smoke unit in my 1959 locomotive, I now made it a 1962 locomotive, Sometimes a small adjustment to a model can make puting a date to a locomotive very difficult for hobby historians).
